Disputed demonstration in Neustadt: Protestors participate in a contentious march through the streets of Neustadt. - The court permits just 15 drummers.
Upcoming protests in Rhineland-Palatinate are causing concern for local residents due to the noise levels expected at the event. With up to 3,000-5,000 people planned to attend, including the use of megaphones and whistles, the town of Neustadt is anticipating a disruptive atmosphere.
The town's residents have been experiencing stress due to regular demonstrations at Hambach Castle since October 2023, which involve the use of 15 drums. This has led to the Neustadt Administrative Court making a decision to limit the use of drums at the upcoming march.
Criticism surrounding the event has surfaced, as there are rumored participants that are Reichsbürger sympathizers. In response, the "Regional Alliance against the Right" will hold a vigil on Saturday.
The "Initiative Hambach24" has organized the event and is aiming for a "grassroots democratic renewal of Germany," however, counter-protests have also been announced. The "Neustadt bleibt bunt" group, an association of citizens against marches by opponents of democracy, have planned a demonstration as well.
Initially, the city of Neustadt attempted to restrict the use of drums, but the organizer disagreed with the decision, claiming it as unjustified. Now, the organizer has the option to appeal the administrative court's decision to the Rhineland-Palatinate Higher Administrative Court.
