26.5 million allocated for salaries. - The club continues to lead in personnel expenses within the second division.
In recent years, 1. FC Nuremberg hasn't been performing as well on the field as they'd like. They finished the last two seasons in 14th and 12th place. Nevertheless, when it comes to overall expenses for player, coach, and staff salaries within the club, FCN still ranks as one of the top teams in the 2. Liga.
The DFL's recently published financial figures show that FCN spent a hefty 26.5 million euros on personnel costs during the 2022/23 season. In comparison, only four second-division teams had higher personnel expenditure: Hertha BSC with 97.6 million euros, Schalke 04 with 73 million euros, 1. FC Cologne with 68.7 million euros, and Hamburg SV with 41.6 million euros. Notably, Berlin, Schalke, and Cologne were all playing in the Bundesliga during the same season.
Thomas Grethlein, a former member of the supervisory board (age 66), addressed the issue of a "structural deficit" at FCN during the members' meeting in November. There's been increased scrutiny ever since about whether the vacant positions will be filled.
