Reducing bureaucracy - The Brexit-related staff unit is scheduled for dissolution.
Over four years following the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union, the Hessian government plans to shutter a dedicated task force created to address Brexit-related issues. "The Brexit assistance unit will be dismantled as the new government is formed and assumes its new responsibilities in terms of bureaucratic cutbacks," shared Minister for Bureaucratic Reduction, Manfred Pentz (CDU), in response to a minor query posed by the FDP. Currently, the task force lacks personnel, and any remaining duties are being executed by the Hessian state representative.
According to the statement, the decision to evaluate the staff unit's performance was a regular occurrence under the previous black-green administration. The unit, which was formed prior to the UK's Brexit, had accumulated expenses amounting to approximately 830,000 euros from 2016 to 2023. Up to this moment, no costs have been incurred in 2023. Hesse had sought to consolidate its activities with the aid of the staff unit even before the UK's departure from the EU. The primary motivation behind this move was how Frankfurt could benefit as a financial hub. Furthermore, the future trade relations between Hesse and the UK were of utmost importance.
