TV moment elicits goosebumps - The basketball star unexpectedly starts sobbing alongside his father.
Last week, Otis Livingston II was revealed as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of this season's Basketball Bundesliga (BBL). However, the way he found out remained a surprise until now.
Everyone else was in on the plan. The television station Dyn, his father, even his teammates. The only one unaware was the point guard himself.
His ex-teammate and Dyn expert Basti Doreth (34) interviewed Livingston. They chatted about the MVP voting, with results still unknown at the time. Livingston's senior, a renowned news anchor for CBS in New York, was also connected from a TV studio.
Some friendly banter ensued between father and son. Then, as if he had just received an important message, the senior reached for a button in his ear and played along. The message: "Breaking News." This led him to announce to his son that he'd been voted MVP of the season.
A state of disbelief set in as Livingston took the news. Seconds later, his teammates barged in with the trophy in hand, and the professional basketball player broke down in tears. "This means so much to me," Livingston wept.
Distances didn't seem to matter, as Livingston Senior also broke down in front of the camera. He gushed, "I'm so proud of you, not just the basketball player, but mainly for the person you've become."
Emotions overflowed on both sides of the Atlantic. "I wish I could give you a big hug right now. I love you, my son," the senior said, tearing up in the TV studio.
Looking towards the team's playoffs, Livingston Senior reminded them, "Don't forget: your job isn't done yet."
