Tesla Continues Collaborating with Native Casinos for Car Displays
Tesla is teaming up with Native American tribes to construct sales, support, and distribution centers for their innovative electric vehicles.
The company, helmed by billionaire Elon Musk and specializing in designing and manufacturing electric cars, SUVs, trucks, energy storage units (like batteries and solar panels), has revealed another tribal partnership. This one involves the Mohegan Tribe, enabling Tesla to establish an "elite Tesla Electric Vehicle (EV) sales space" on the terrains of Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
This autumn, tribal authorities predict the debut of the Tesla sales outlet at the tribal casino, enabling visitors to browse new Tesla models and purchase them on the spot. The center will also facilitate the delivery of online acquisitions for clients.
"We're tremendously thrilled to introduce this new Tesla EV Sales Space opening this autumn at Mohegan Sun," proclaimed Jeff Hamilton, the president and managing director of Mohegan Sun. "This alliance with Tesla represents a groundbreaking milestone in Mohegan Sun's strategy to establish meaningful connections, promote ecological sustainability, and provide exceptional experiences for our millions of yearly guests."
Situated within the Mohegan Sun Shops area adjacent to Todd English's Tuscany restaurant, the Tesla outlet will offer test rides and delivery service at the Sky Tower valet.
Quirk in the Legal System
The Electrification Coalition, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization striving to formulate and implement federal and state regulations that foster the broader adoption of electric vehicles, maintains that 29 states either impose limitations or a complete ban on direct sales from a manufacturer to a consumer. Connecticut is one of the 19 states that forbid direct EV sales.
This coalition solicits that outdated regulations, which compel vehicle manufacturers to only sell their items through a third-party vendor, are not advantageous for the EV sector. These rules were created to shield vehicle dealerships from their manufacturers, such as Ford, in the event that a manufacturer decides to bypass their dealers and sell directly to the consumer.
"Tesla prospers by circumventing the dealer model. There is an enormous volume of information regarding EVs that must be divulged during the sales process; questions regarding range, charging methods, and accessible incentives," the Electrification Coalition asserts. "Discerning these details and responding to queries from each prospective new customer necessitates a considerable investment of time."
However, Tesla manages to circumvent state laws, which call for a go-between, by setting up distribution and delivery centers on sovereign properties, which are exempt from such statutes.
"This announcement between the Mohegan Tribe and the worldwide EV frontrunner, Tesla, signifies the launch of a unique initiative in Connecticut that unprecedently integrates the premier sales and delivery center on sovereign tribal land," a joint declaration from the Mohegan Tribe and Tesla read.
Tesla's Native American Alliances
Although Tesla's approaching sales, support, and delivery center will be its initial showroom in Connecticut when it commences this fall, the automobile manufacturer is also drawing up a similar facility in New York. The Oneida Nation welcomed Tesla as a partner in June to establish an EV outlet at the tribe's Turning Stone Resort Casino.
Furthermore, Tesla also operates a sales space in New Mexico with the First Nation of Nambe Pueblo near the Pueblo's Buffalo Thunder Resort Casino.
