Surreal night sights. - Ten battle tanks were seen passing through Gera.
The sound of the tracks on the tanks echoed along the A4 highway as they exited, making their way through Theaterstraße close to the Altenburg-Gera Theater and towards the city's main train station. With military police and regular police accompanying the convoy, the destination of these tanks seemed serious.
At the station, the soldiers promptly loaded the tanks onto wagons for transportation to their military training grounds in Upper Lusatia.
The sudden noise stirred up reactions on social media among residents who expressed concern for the disturbance and condition of the roads: "That was so loud!" one person said, and many others joined the chorus of worry.
A year ago, Germany sent 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks to Ukraine for use in their conflict with Russia. However, only a small number are still active as the army faces a shortage of spare parts after wear and tear.
