Taxes on imported goods - Telekom proposes offer during wage negotiations - Verdi discards it.
Employers and the union representing Deutsche Telekom workers are miles apart in their negotiations over pay raises. The company recently proposed a wage increase plan in Cologne that includes a one-time tax-free bonus for inflation, amounting to €2,000 this year. While a salary increase won't be considered until January 2025, this would amount to about a 4.2% percent raise. Additionally, beginning in October 2025, employees will receive a monthly bonus of an extra €150, depending on their pay scale group, which could lead to up to a 4.2% increase. Apprentices and dual students are also to receive higher pay.
However, Verdi, the trade union, finds this proposal inadequate and is push for a more generous increase. The union is asking for a 12% salary boost across a 12-month period, while Deutsche Telekom prefers a 27-month contract. The agreement under discussion would affect a substantial number of employees - 55,500 people, according to Bonn-based sources. Verdi, on the other hand, wants a broader coverage of the contract, including 70,000 employees from more areas within the company. Throughout the negotiations, Verdi has tried to add pressure using warning strikes. As a result, some customers have been affected: cancelled appointments for technical services and longer wait times on the service hotline. Further warning strikes may be in the pipeline.
