Teen Accused of Murder at Luxor Hotel Remains in Las Vegas Penitentiary

A young woman is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow for a crime she's accused of committing at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Emma Kusak, who recently turned 18, was arrested on June 29 and booked into Clark County Detention Center for allegedly murdering a 36-year-old man from Glendale, California. Police say she shot him twice in the head.

Kusak had initially been held in a juvenile facility, but she is now being tried as an adult. She's facing charges of murder, robbery, and grand larceny for stealing his property.

On Thursday, she made her first appearance in front of a judge, who refused to set bail.

Police revealed this week that Kusak allegedly killed Charlie Satrustegui while they were inside a room on the 12th floor of the hotel. She then fled the scene.

After fleeing the room, she contacted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) to report the crime. She later surrendered to the authorities, telling them, "I didn't mean to do it."

How They Met

Kusak and Satrustegui had met on the dating app, Bumble. The pair exchanged around 30 messages before meeting in person. Two months later, Satrustegui invited Kusak to join him while he was visiting Las Vegas.

They went to Albertsons, a grocery store, and bought alcohol, then returned to his room at the Luxor. They drank about eight shots of vodka throughout the night.

At one point, Satrustegui showed Kusak a handgun. He told her he liked to hunt and go shooting.

Initially, the two fell asleep at around 1 a.m. At approximately 3 a.m., Satrustegui told Kusak to leave the room because her coughing was keeping him awake.

Kusak claims she woke up and saw Satrustegui approaching her, thinking he was going to attack her. She then shot him.

After changing her story, she admitted to the pair having argued.

Shortly before the shooting, Kusak tried to call friends to pick her up, but they couldn't. Eventually, she grabbed Satrustegui's gun, demanded his belongings, and fled the scene.

She thought she would steal his money, but he lunged for the gun, and she shot him. She didn't intend to shoot him, but she had nowhere to go and didn't want to return to jail, according to the LVMPD arrest report.

Kusak stole his keys, wallet, and cell phone, which contained about $300. She took his car, drove a short distance, and parked it, leaving the items inside.

Disposing of the Weapon

She then took an Uber taxi to the Wingstop restaurant near Rainbow and Charleston boulevards in Las Vegas. There, she threw the gun into a trash can.

Finally, she called the police and reported the crime.
