The judge decides on probation for the individual. - Teacher forces spoon into child's mouth.

Between September 2021 and December 2022, Anna-Lena S. (37) abused boys and girls up to two years old at the Greußenheim "Seesternchen" daycare center. Her boss, Stephanie N., has been ordered to pay 7500 euros for turning a blind eye to the assaults.

The violence erupted because both defendants were in love with the same vice-principal, but Anna-Lena S.'s feelings were not reciprocated.

"During the time period of 2020 to 2022, there was no trust and no cooperation among colleagues at the daycare center," concluded Judge Thomas Schuster. "There was gossip and bullying." The children at the center endured the fallout, which also explains the intense emotions during the trial. Schuster emphasized, "If we put our defenseless little children into care, then we have to trust them. It's about the most basic fears!"

Anna-Lena S. admitted to the criminal acts, but justified her harsh actions: "Temperamental, wrong response," clarified her defense lawyer Hanjo Schrepfer. According to the court, two boys had their bottoms slapped so roughly that they experienced pain even in diapers.

  • One child was locked in a dark room by the teacher and a boy had a spoon forcefully shoved down his throat as he ate, causing him to vomit.
  • In the most severe instance, a boy was confined to a crib from which he tumbled onto the hard ground when he attempted to escape.

"Dangerous for children that young"

Group leader Stephanie N. admitted the allegations in court

"This is life-threatening for such small children," stated Judge Schuster. The mother was informed when she arrived to pick up her child that he had bumped the edge of the table.

Despite witnessing the abuse, it wasn't until a year later that the crimes were reported. As a result, Stephanie N. was charged with neglect. "The children were crying, Anna-Lena was causing them harm, but I didn't take any further action," she revealed during the trial.

"Both of them abused the most helpless and vulnerable members of our society," noted the judge. Despite this, he chose not to bar Anna-Lena S. from her profession.

Without confessing, Anna-Lena S. might have faced imprisonment. However, the court concluded she was not a monster. She lost her job and would likely face difficulty finding employment in the area. "I find no risk of repetition in the childcare profession," said Thomas Schuster.
