Radical beliefs or ideologies - Sylt bar files a criminal complaint in response to a racism incident.
The operators of a popular bar on Sylt have responded to a racist incident involving their party guests by defending their actions and taking legal steps. In a statement on Saturday, they wrote on Instagram that if they had seen this behavior happening, they would've immediately notified the police and pressed charges. The people involved have been identified and reported. They made it clear that they have "zero tolerance" for such anti-social behavior and are now taking appropriate actions against it. They were also shocked and appalled by the incident."Racism and fascism are not welcome in our society," they declared.
A short video lasting a few seconds, which gained traction on Thursday, shows a group of young people shouting racist slogans along with Gigi D'Agostino's popular 20-year-old track "L'amour Toujours." The slogans include "Germany for the Germans - foreigners out!" and one person doing a gesture like the Hitler salute. Other bystanders appear unbothered by this. Authorities are investigating the incitement of the people and the use of unconstitutional symbols.
Politicians reacted with shock to the incident. On Friday, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) called the slogans "disgusting" and "unacceptable," while Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) stated that anyone who does such things "brings disgrace to Germany." This is not the only such case - another took place at Whitsun in Lower Saxony, where similar slogans were shouted at a shooting festival where the state security service is investigating.
