Suspect Charged with Killing at Resorts World Las Vegas Denies Guilt
A previous pro wrestler and two-time Congressional hopeful submitted a plea of not guilty on Wednesday in relation to a murder case at Resorts World Las Vegas.
Daniel Rodimer, 45, now living in Texas, shared his plea in a brief court session. He's facing charges of murder associated with Chris Tapp's death in November after a violent altercation at Resorts World, according to reports.
Rodimer's legal team, led by criminal defense attorneys Richard Schonfeld and David Chesnoff, informed Judge Tierra Jones that they will challenge the indictment, the Associated Press reports.
Chesnoff later remarked to journalists that Rodimer "vigorously denies any responsibility for the allegations" as quoted by the AP.
Tapp, 47, was pronounced dead after sustaining injuries when his head hit a table in a hotel room on October 29. Rodimer is said to have attacked Tapp after the latter offered Rodimer's stepdaughter suspected cocaine at a Halloween gathering, according to police accounts.
Rodimer dangerously yelled, "If you ever talk to my daughter again, I’ll [expletive] kill you," a witness informed police, adding there were two loud banging sounds after the warning.
Some time after the incident, Tapp passed away while a patient at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Initially deemed an accidental death, police deemed it suspicious. The cause of death was confirmed as blunt force trauma to the head by the Clark County coroner's office.
On March 6, Rodimer was arrested by deputies from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD). He shared a $200K bond to secure his release from custody.
Miscarriage of Justice
Tapp received media attention upon being awarded $11.7M in a wrongful conviction lawsuit, having served two decades in Idaho prisons for a 1996 homicide. He was granted release in 2019 following the court's acceptance of new evidence that exonerated him of the criminal charges.
Congressional Bids
Recently, Rodimer sought elections to the United States Congress as a Republican in both Texas and Nevada. Both attempts were unsuccessful.
In 2020, he attempted to win Nevada's third Congressional district seat, held by incumbent Rep. Susie Lee (D). He lost with a margin of roughly 13K votes.
Before his political endeavors, Rodimer was a pro wrestler known as "Dan Rodman."
Texas Arrest
In another noteworthy event, Rodimer was apprehended by Texas authorities in a separate incident earlier this year, nearly two months before his arrest for the murder case in Las Vegas. He was accused of stealing rifle scopes from a sporting goods store and brandishing a weapon at the time.
