Leading BKA investigator gives testimony in court case. - Suspect believed to have accumulated numerous children's swimsuits.
During a search of an abandoned crate factory in Neuwegersleben in 2016, authorities seized a large amount of children's underwear, swimsuits, and bikinis amounting to a three-digit figure. According to Rainer G., the chief investigator of the BKA, this came to light during the trial at the Braunschweig Regional Court on Thursday.
Brückner is being charged with three counts of rape and two cases of sexual abuse of children. Additionally, he is believed to be the perpetrator behind the abduction and murder of Maddie McCann, a 3-year-old girl who vanished from her parent's vacation apartment in 2007. Rainer G. is heading the investigation into all these cases.
Brückner's factory inspected twice
Not much is known about the specific crimes Brückner is involved in concerning the Maddie case. However, Rainer G. is unable to divulge any details, as the investigation is still ongoing.
In 2018, the BKA inspected Brückner's box factory for a second time in search of evidence. During the first search in 2016, the focus was on a mobile home on the premises, where the children's clothing was discovered. At the time, the police suspected that Brückner could be connected to the disappearance of Inga Gehricke, a 5-year-old girl from Wilhelmshof, but this theory couldn't be confirmed. "The surroundings and buildings were only superficially checked back then," said Rainer G.
During the second search, the BKA found a container filled with clothing hidden under debris and asphalt. Weather conditions made it difficult to classify the textiles accurately, according to Rainer G. Brückner's red Jaguar was also seized, and the prosecutor's office later solicited help from the public for additional information.
Ambidextrous perpetrator?
Discussions ensued regarding the investigation into the case of Hazel B., who was raped in Portugal in 2004 and claims Brückner to be the culprit. Dr. Friedrich Fülscher, Hazel B.'s lawyer, accused the BKA of not carefully examining the possibility that the perpetrator could be either left- or right-handed. Hazel B.'s testimony would suggest a left-handed man, but Brückner is known to be right-handed from photographs available to the BKA. However, Rainer G. responded that, based on his experience, perpetrators often use both hands for various activities.
Hazel B. testified in court that the assailant held a knife in his left hand and pulled her hair with his right. He then pulled her onto a bench by her hair with his left hand.
