A plume of smoke is clearly visible from 100 km distance. - Suffered injuries in a big fire at Aue.
Over 130 firefighters responded to a major blaze at an auto service station on the B101 highway in Aue, Saxony on Saturday. Observers reported that the colossal smoke plume was visible from as far as 100 kilometers away.
These firefighters battled the inferno near Schwarzenberg in the Ore Mountains, donning respirators. Two people were injured in the process and were transported to the hospital suspected of suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The closure of both B101 and the connecting bypass was necessary due to the dense smoke, as efforts were made to bring the fire under control from both ends of the road.
Both buildings were consumed completely, with a warehouse collapse. It's been reported that both cars and vintage cars were stored there. Allegedly, two people sustained injuries during the incident.
The response continued well into the night, with the Technical Relief Organization deploying drones and infrared cameras to identify hot spots and monitor the scene overhead. Close by are other auto companies and the "Mini Zoo" with around 400 animals of small breeds, including wild species.
Investigators have arrived at the scene to look into the cause of the fire and are considering arson as a potential cause. The extent of the damage is staggering and is still being calculated. More details will surface throughout the day.
