In regards to his television goodbye. - Suddenly, Strong is facing criticism.
Last Saturday, he honored his final home game with a triumphant lap. He bid farewell to his fans in grand style, even with a streaker making an appearance on the field. However, not everyone was thrilled with his departure.
"Perhaps I'm becoming unpopular now," he began, "I must admit, he did a fantastic job. But I also have to say, I didn't always find his demeanor to be to my liking. He wasn't the best at keeping his cool on the sidelines. Streich, in particular, had a way of sticking out like a sore thumb."
Draxler elaborated further, "Yes, he earned sympathy, and there's nothing wrong with that. But we shouldn't sugarcoat things either and gloss over his shortcomings just because he's quitting. Streich is a one-of-a-kind individual. He's from Freiburg, and it's tough to imagine him succeeding anywhere else. My personal opinion is starkly different. Congratulations on your success and goodbye - but I'm not your fan."
There was a contradictory perspective, though. Guest Christoph Daum (70), a former coach himself, expresses his support for Streich. On the show, he jokingly teased Draxler by saying, "You're just not from Freiburg."
Daum then shared the real reason for his admiration of Streich. "Streich was such a breath of fresh air. He also raised important societal concerns. In my eyes, he was a unique fixture of soccer who made a significant impact."
Freiburg will take on Union Berlin the following Saturday. It's been 29 years with the team for Streich, and 12 years as the team's head coach. By then, the Streich era would mercifully draw to a close.
