A3 highway close to Wiesbaden is shut down. - Strong cargo truck breaches bridge barrier.
A massive truck collided with a bridge railing on the Autobahn 3 in Wiesbaden last night, causing the tractor unit to land on a slope with trees. This incident resulted in the bridge railing being destroyed.
The road was still closed in the morning, with detours being set up by the police due to the damage inflicted. The country road 3018 underneath was also blocked, as debris and vehicle parts had fallen down.
Accident at roadworks site
The lorry driver, aged 44, failed to switch lanes in time, crashing into a barrier trailer at the roadworks site. This caused the tractor unit to break through the right-hand crash barrier of the bridge. The trailer came to an abrupt stop across all lanes, causing further disruption to traffic.
Remarkably, the trucker was unharmed in the incident. The police estimated the damage to be around 300,000 euros.
