Strife at Florida Casino Ends in Attempted Murder Accusation
A recent disagreement at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tampa escalated into an attempted murder scenario, as stated in a news report.
Lamar Brooks, 33, from Bartow, Florida, began arguing with his former friend Cameron Brewer at the Florida gaming establishment over money. Their argument continued at an unspecified strip club nearby. Brooks supposedly tried crashing Brewer's car on a highway, as mentioned by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The incident progressed outside their neighborhood, where both men reside approximately 40 miles east of the casino. An exchange of gunfire took place between the two people, as per the authorities.
As Brewer left his vehicle, Brooks reportedly grabbed a semi-automatic rifle from an unidentified location and entered Brewer's yard, as per the police report (quoted by WFLA on Friday). Brooks apparently fired several bullets into the ground. Brewer approached Brooks, leading Brooks to point the rifle at Brewer's chest. After firing seven to 10 shots, Brewer pushed the rifle away and went back into his residence.
There, he acquired a .380 caliber Beretta firearm and a .45 caliber Hi-Point gun, according to WFLA. He then fired two shots into the ground. Hearing the gunshots, Brooks became startled and fled the scene. Later, Brooks entered his house and refused to exit. Law enforcement officers arrived at the crime scene and persuaded Brooks to come outside and submit to their custody.
Brooks was charged with attempted second-degree homicide, tampering with evidence, use of a firearm during commission of a felony, felon in possession of a firearm, discharge of a firearm in a residential area, and resisting an officer without violence, according to the news report.
He was detained on these charges, and these will be passed on to local prosecutors. At the time of writing, Brooks has not yet entered a plea. If convicted, he could be imprisoned for several years.
At present, it's unknown if Brewer will face charges for his involvement in the confrontation. The exact sum of money linked to the initial conflict remains undisclosed.
