Strat has temporary contracts with more than 700 workers
The Strat Hotel, Casino & Tower is the latest Las Vegas resort to sign an agreement with the Culinary Alliance.
Union representatives accepted management's offer Tuesday night. The bill still needs approval from the more than 700 rank-and-file union members who work on the property.
The new five-year contract includes salary increases for hotel staff. Details have not yet been released to the public.
Strat teller Adalila Vargas, one of the employees affected by the tentative agreement, said in a union statement: “I’m happy for my family, my co-workers... I’m happy for being a union Proud member. ”
Negotiations continue
In November, members of the Culinary Union reached an agreement with the management of three major casino companies - Wynn Resorts, Caesars Entertainment and MGM Resorts International - to avert a imminent strike. In recent weeks, contracts have been signed for a number of other properties, such as the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.
With this latest agreement, the Culinary Union still has 17 remaining properties for union leaders to negotiate contracts for.
These are smaller, stand-alone properties located on the Las Vegas Strip or in downtown Las Vegas. The union has begun informational demonstrations at several Las Vegas casinos.
Hotels that have yet to reach tentative agreements with the union include Circus Circus, Hilton Grand Vacations, Rio, Sahara Las Vegas, Treasure Island, Virgin Hotels, Binion's, Circa, Downtown Grand, El Cortez, Four Queens, Fremont, Golden Gate, Golden Nugget , Main Street, The D and Plaza.
The union has also threatened a strike at 5 a.m. on February 2 at properties that have not yet reached an agreement.
Super Bowl revenue at risk
The looming strike, which comes just days before the Super Bowl, could affect the potential profitability of Las Vegas hotels and casinos. This legendary pro football game will take place on Sunday, February 11th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
There are many events planned in Las Vegas in the week leading up to the game. Events will begin with Super Bowl opening night on February 5 at Allegiant Stadium.
According to Forbes magazine, 330,000 visitors are expected to travel to Las Vegas during Super Bowl festivities to watch the game or related events. According to current forecasts, nearly all hotel rooms will be fully booked.
Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), recently told Forbes: “Visitors who come to the Super Bowl definitely spend more than our average visitor. .”
Even in previous years, when the Super Bowl was held outside of Las Vegas, many tourists came to the city to watch the event.
