Oh my goodness! - Storm causes church cross to topple.
In Itzehoe, Schleswig-Holstein, who would've thought that the heavens could bring a 300-pound headache?
A strong gust of wind sent a 2.5-meter tall metal cross spiraling to the ground, where it almost collided with the church's ceiling. Quickly, the fire department was called in to save the day. Luckily, they didn't have to use their turntable ladder - rescuers managed to climb up the tower and fasten the cross with ropes instead.
The extent of the damaged cross is being assessed currently. It's been standing strong against winds for more than half a century, and the pastor is puzzled by this sudden mishap. How much will it cost to fix this? Only time will tell.
However, one thing's for sure: this wasn't your usual everyday rescue mission.
