Initial step towards climbing - Stamm to Instantly Alter Dynamo Dresden's Direction
This season, Dynamo Dresden's squad will consist of 24 field players and three goalkeepers. By including talent from their own youth system, they'll have an opportunity to showcase their skills.
A big shift from the past two years has occurred. During the 2022/23 season, Dynamo had 30 professionals (with four being goalkeepers) under contract. Last year, they had 29 professionals (once again with four goalkeepers).
For promotion - Dynamo's core will be smaller!
The purpose of this adjustment is to improve the team's performance at the top. However, it won't overwhelm the club's young players with an abundance of established professionals. Moreover, a smaller squad means fewer unhappy players and better overall fitness, as every player will get a chance to play on the field rather than just sitting on the bench.
Plus, Dynamo cuts their budget for the third year in a row in the third league season by saving on the depth and still manages to compete in the 2. Liga. However, the downside for the core is that the squad at Dynamo became so large over time due to the surprisingly high number of muscle injuries.
Former sports director Ralf Becker (53) attempted to address this issue, but it was a challenging task. In the end, he signed more players.
Time for Stamm and Brendel to work on transfers
In essence, Dynamo Dresden needs to improve the sports medicine and rehabilitation department to deal with the smaller squad. Additionally, Sports Director Thomas Stamm has a lot on his plate in terms of the transfer market alongside new sports director Thomas Brendel (48). To reach the desired squad size, they theoretically need to sign up to eleven professionals (including a goalkeeper).
Right now, there are only 14 field players and two goalkeepers with a contract. [If we exclude the returning youth players and the now-discarded Jan Shcherbakovski (23), there are currently only 14 field players and two goalkeepers with a contract.]
