Sven Voss secures a new employment position. - Sportscaster at ZDF starts chasing criminals now.
Since childhood, this individual enjoyed covertly watching "Aktenzeichen XY... ungelöst." Starting from this Wednesday, he'll be hosting new episodes of the spin-off series "XY gelöst" at 20:15 on ZDF.
Covering such crimes is both thrilling and complex for journalists like him. When ZDF announced they were searching for someone similar to Rudi Cerne, Voss was their ideal candidate.
Hailing from a small village with a population of 1200 in the Eifel region, Voss reflects, "There wasn't much excitement here back then in the countryside. Traffic violations were the only real crime, and the town sheriff would issue warnings if you broke those rules."
Back then, as a child, his ambition lay in sports: soccer in the D-youth leagues, followed by tennis and basketball. "But I just didn't have what it took for a professional career," he shares. His basketball coach then introduced him to a regional broadcaster, kicking off his career in journalism.
Voss has been presenting "Aktuelle Sportstudios" on ZDF since 2011, shifting from sports journalism (much like Rudi Cerne, who assumed the position of "Aktenzeichen XY... ungelöst" presenter in 2002) to crime reporting.
Voss observes, "It's quite odd. Whenever Rudi and I meet, we laugh about ZDF recognizing similar traits in us when it comes to pursuing criminals." He continues, "Rudi mentioned that his sports supervisor advised against it at the time, but he ignored the advice and it turned out to be the best choice of his life. It's possible to blend sports and crime, and now I'm following in his footsteps."
Not only do they share a similar path in journalism, but they also share certain personality traits. Voss shares, "We're both not too serious and enjoy western movies. 'Die Sieben Auf Idahl' is my top pick among westerns."
As for his family (a son, 12, and a daughter, 16), how do they feel about him delving into crime news? His wife, who manages a daycare center, experiences her own share of real-world challenges. "My daughter is particularly enthusiastic about true crime and also pays close attention to the happenings on the show."
Furthermore, Voss and his daughter engage in a game they play while walking through the pedestrian zone – one of them must question the other about a passer-by's appearance. "That's when you realize how challenging it can be to serve as a reliable witness."
