Sportsbook Redesigns for Upcoming Florida Launch in Hard Rock Style

The Hard Rock online sportsbook has transformed into Hard Rock Bet. Despite the name change, the sportsbook platform remains active in Arizona, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Hard Rock International, owned and managed by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, unveiled the rebranding on Wednesday. Hard Rock Bet is now live in Arizona, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, and Virginia, with plans for New Jersey to join the lineup later this summer.

The Hard Rock sports betting and iGaming app in New Jersey will soon be rebranded as Hard Rock Bet as well. New Jersey is one of only six states that permit iGaming featuring interactive slots and table games. Hard Rock is licensed to operate online gaming in the state.

Hard Rock officials argue that rebranding their digital sportsbook aligns with the corporation's overall brand. Hard Rock Bet bears the corporate logo of its iconic guitar.

To lure new players to the new Hard Rock Bet platform, the sportsbook is offering a risk-free bet of up to $200 for new customers. If the $200 wager loses, the new accounts will receive the amount lost. These "bonus bet" credits must be wagered within seven days of being issued.

The Seminoles currently have a monopoly on slot machines in Florida, excluding Miami-Dade and Broward counties. They also hold exclusive rights to most table games on tribal lands outside of Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

In April 2021, the Seminoles made a deal with Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to revise their Class III gaming compact, which now allows them to operate sports betting on tribal lands and online. The condition is that the Hard Rock sportsbook's computer servers must remain on tribal grounds.

Just a month after starting online sports wagering in Florida, Magic City Casino and the Bonita Springs Poker Room, both owned and operated by West Flagler Associates, filed an appeal. In November 2021, Judge Dabney Friedrich of the Washington D.C. District Court ruled against the Seminoles, contending that IGRA doesn't permit tribal gaming off tribal lands. Despite this, attorneys for the Seminoles and the US Department of the Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs claimed that the requirement of the servers remaining on tribal lands satisfied the IGRA interpretations.

Possible Restart

In a recent ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, judges declared that IGRA doesn't prohibit federally-recognized tribes and their host states from reaching an agreement for a tribal group to operate casino games "off Indian lands." If the matter isn't taken to the Supreme Court, this decision permits the Seminoles to resume their online sportsbook in Florida.
