Sports betting provider XTiP boosts its presence in the second division.

MSV Duisburg has a new main sponsor in the sports betting provider XTiP, part of the Gauselmann Group. This deepens their existing relationship with the club. Last season, XTiP served as a secondary partner for MSV Duisburg. Starting July 28th, XTiP's logo will be showcased on the club's jerseys, available in the fan shop.

During the Cup of Traditions, sponsored by Schauinsland Reisen, the team showcased the new jersey with XTiP as the main sponsor instead of the planned second match against Aston Villa with the old jersey and the inscription "Brust raus für Duisburg". The reason behind the premature display is unclear.

The partnership benefits both parties immensely. The bookmaker enjoys visibility on the club's LED boards and static stands, digital advertising, and promotions. Extensions for the jersey partnership are also an option, covering the first three leagues. For MSV Duisburg, the new sponsor provides financial stability, allowing them to focus on preparations for the season. Peter Mohnhaupt, Managing Director of the club, expressed his delight at the sponsorship, saying:

"We're thrilled to have gained an existing partner in XTiP to support us as our main sponsor on the journey to establishing ourselves in the 2nd division. By securing this deal with XTiP, we can fully concentrate on preparing for the season."

The partnership has caused some tension among fans due to a long-standing rivalry between the two teams. However, MSV Duisburg and XTiP perceive their shared passion for soccer as the primary connection, along with regional ties. Many store partners of XTiP are based in the region, with a flagship store at Duisburg Central Station offering an exclusive MSV Duisburg customer card. XTiP's managing director, Niko Steinkrauß, clarified these matters to "Der Westen":

"As a sports betting provider, we're obliged to be neutral by nature. [...] Local rivalries drive exciting and thrilling games, which is the heart of soccer."

XTiP is a brand of Merkur Sportwetten Holding, a subsidiary of the Gauselmann Group. They have experience dating back to 20 years in the sports betting sector and operate out of Malta. XTiP markets and brokers the sports betting offers in Germany through betting shops, terminals, their app, and desktop version of xtip.de. Customers can use the betting offers at any location with a customer card. In 2016, XTiP absorbed the betting brokers "Wettmeister" and "Oddsline", employing over 300 people and maintaining 500 sales locations across Germany.

Benefits of the partnership for both parties

XTiP, as the main sponsor, enjoys several perks, including presence on the club’s LEDboards and static stands, digital advertising, and promotions. Additionally, they have an option to extend the jersey partnership to cover the first three leagues. On the other hand, for MSV Duisburg, the new sponsor brings financial security, enabling them to solely focus on readying themselves for the season. Peter Mohnhaupt, MSV Duisburg’s managing director, expressed his satisfaction with the cooperative agreement:

'We're extremely pleased to have secured an existing partner in XTiP to accompany us as our main sponsor on the way to establishing ourselves in the 2nd division. This deal with XTiP allows us to devote all our efforts to preparing for the season.'

Acknowledgement of fan concerns

The association with Rot-Weiss Essen, a rival team, raised concerns from some MSV Duisburg fans. A showdown between the two teams occurred during the Lower Rhine Cup final in late May. However, the teams will not face each other in the league since Rot-Weiss Essen competes in the Regionalliga West. Despite this, XTiP management perceives their soccer passion and regional affiliations as key commonalities, downplaying concerns about aiding rival clubs:

'As a provider of sports betting, we're inherently neutral. [...] Rivalries fuel exciting and enthralling games, which are essential to soccer.'
