Spiegelworld Compelled to rename its latest F1 Las Vegas Show.
In a matter of three days, Spiegelworld, the creators behind the adult-themed circus show Absinthe at Caesars Palace and other extravaganzas, revealed a new performance on the Las Vegas Strip and had to adjust its name.
The show, initially called Box Box, was intended to kick off at the Cosmopolitan just before the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The name is derived from F1 parlance for a pit stop.
Spiegelworld founder and owner Ross Mollison described the show in a press release as "a bit of late-night fun for an intimate crowd, celebrating a significant Las Vegas sporting event with some drinks, pizza, and a few laughs."
Unfortunately, Mollison learned that Box Box was a moniker already used by other entities.
The lawsuits quickly arrived at Spiegelworld's doorstep. "Suddenly, we had an irate group of lawyers banging on our door, threatening to sue us because the name was too similar to a New York City adult cabaret nightclub, a Californian storage company, and a boxing gym in Pasadena," he said.
Regardless, the show is still scheduled to take place. Only now it will be known as Lights Out! Its new name stems from the F1 starting line phrase — "It's lights out and away we go" — which was popularized by famed F1 announcer David Croft.
"Hopefully, we don't get sued by the NV Energy Company," Mollison quipped.
The Pits
Months ago, Spiegelworld gathered some of L.A.'s best comic artists for a monthlong lockdown at Nipton, California, a town they had bought in January with intentions of converting it into their own circus town.
Their objective was to develop content for a "tiny, silly, amusing show that delved into the human fascination with fast cars speeding around a track," according to Mollison.
The result is a quartet of performers who seem like a race car pit crew, but who engage in choreographed dances and other unrelated tasks, such as peeling a banana, solving a Rubik's Cube, and changing a doll's diaper.
"With the F1 race around the corner and its disruption of live entertainment on the Strip, there's plenty of excitement," Mollison said. "Instead of avoiding it, Spiegelworld decided to seize the moment and give our best shot."
Lights Out! debuts at 11 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, within Superfrico at the Cosmopolitan. To secure a spot, proceed to Spiegelworld.com and make a $100 food and beverage minimum per person reservation.
