Metrological conditions in the region - Southern region warned of potential thunderstorms accompanied by downpours.
The German Meteorological Service (DWD) has issued a severe weather alert for large areas of Baden-Württemberg, predicting heavy rain and hailstorms. According to the level-three storm warning, issued in the afternoon for Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, and Tübingen, some regions may experience torrential downpours with up to 40 liters of rain per square meter per hour. This could increase to 60 liters of rain for several hours in certain areas.
The DWD also cautions that strong winds of up to 80 kilometers per hour and hailstones measuring two centimeters could strike, posing a potential hazard. These conditions will persist until Friday morning.
The DWD's warning suggests that flash floods, landslides, or floods are liable to occur due to the intense weather.
