"South America's Largest Poker Tournament" Arrives in Brazil
The poker community in Latin America is set to experience a remarkable upgrade in live tournament events with the upcoming Kings Series of Poker (KSOP) GGPoker South America. Beginning in January of the coming year, this grand event will take place in Brazil and claims to be the biggest poker tournament ever witnessed in the region. With a jaw-dropping total of BRL35 million (US$7.1 million) in guaranteed prize money, the event is bound to captivate attention.
The event, spanning over a course of 15 days, will be hosted at Barra da Tijuca, a beachside town in Rio de Janeiro. Participants have the opportunity to engage in more than 70 thrilling events, with a standout Super High Roller featuring an exclusive BRL$100,000 (US$20,000) cash prize.
Another notable event is the BRL5,000 (US$1,000) Main Event, featuring a guaranteed prize pool of BRL10 million (US$2 million). What's more, the winner of this event will receive an additional BRL2 million (US$408,000) on top of their winnings!
Reshaping The Poker Landscape In South America
According to a KSOP press release, this event aims to take the Latin American poker community by storm and create a thrilling experience like never before in Brazil. Expect to encounter "Brazilian stars and international poker stars" at this high roller event.
Felipe "Mojave" Ramos, a well-known Brazilian poker player and GGPoker ambassador, excitedly shares updates about this event on X, the updated Twitter platform. He emphasizes how this series presents a perfect opportunity for players because there will be no direct taxes on winnings, making it an irresistible option. Plus, various events cater to different budgets, ensuring greater accessibility.
GGPoker will begin hosting satellite events for entry into the Main Event on November 5th. In addition, GGPoker will roll out tournaments and package giveaways, including tournament entry and lodging at the beach-side Sheraton Grand Rio.
The collaboration between GGPoker and KSOP, which commenced in the beginning of the year, is set to stimulate this gaming trend with a planned schedule of seven stages by the year's end. The five scheduled live events will take place across different Latin American countries, while the other two will be online.
A Thriving Poker World
While there has been a decline in attendance for certain events, the recent World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas set new attendance records, signaling a continuous interest in the poker world. Consequently, the global poker calendar is quickly becoming a must-see destination for ardent players.
The Maryland State Poker Championship is currently underway, and the WSOP Europe is slated for this October. The WSOP Europe Main Event may not yet match the '$12 million' reward of the WSOP Vegas Main Event, but it's catching up quickly.
This WSOP Europe event is scheduled to take place in the Czech Republic and boasts a guaranteed prize pool of €5 million ($5.51 million). The previous year's Main Event surpassed the guarantee by a significant margin of €2.3 million.
Casino Barcelona in Spain is gearing up to host the Spanish Poker Championship from August 11 to 21, followed by the Estrellas Poker Tour from August 21 to 28. The PokerStars Live European Poker Tour (EPT) will then make its appearance in Barcelona from August 21 to September 3 before moving on to Cyprus in October and Prague in December.
