During a period of two years. - Soccer player from Spain participated with a shard in his foot.
Athletic Bilbao's striker Inaki Williams, 29, has faced a strange injury over the past couple of years.
Recently, his coach, Ernesto Valverde, revealed that Williams had undergone surgery due to a persistent issue with his foot.
Now, this foot problem seems quite ordinary, doesn't it? But it's different in this case.
Instead of dealing with a common issue like a stress fracture, the player had been playing with a two-centimeter shard of glass lodged in his foot. Yes, for two years!
Two years with a foreign object in his foot!
It's hard to imagine how this could happen.
Williams had apparently stepped on a piece of broken glass back in 2022. He thought his foot would heal quickly and continued playing. However, the glass didn't get removed, and he carried on with it in his foot for over two years.
During a recent press conference, Valverde shared the news about the current status. He mentioned that their scans revealed a shard of glass still in Williams' foot.
Valverde also shared details of the surgery: "They accidentally left the glass in during his initial treatment. It was quite a large piece, around two centimeters. It was close to a bone or a tendon. We had to carefully extract it."
Lastly, to add more to the incredulity, Valverde joked with the reporters about the strange situation, "To be honest, the doctor and I both laughed when we heard the story."
