Today's final match - Soccer icon Bonucci announces his retirement.

Leonardo Bonucci (37) is set to retire and will play his final match for his current team, Fenerbahce Istanbul, on Sunday. The club made the announcement via social media, sharing a photo of Bonucci with the entire team. In the picture, Bonucci is seen holding his jersey in front of the camera.

This final game could be quite memorable for Bonucci. At present, Fenerbahce is three points behind table leaders and local rivals, Galatasaray. If Fenerbahce were to lose and Galatasaray wins, the championship is still up for grabs.

Bonucci has been one of the top central defenders worldwide throughout his career. The pinnacle of his almost 20-year career was winning the European Championship in 2021. Bonucci scored the crucial equalizer and converted coolly in the penalty shootout against England, as Italy claimed victory. With 121 international matches on his record, Bonucci has earned a spot in the annals of football history.

The majority of Bonucci's career was spent in Italy. He played most of his games for top clubs including Inter, Juventus, and AC Milan in the Serie A and notched a remarkable 31 goals as a defender.

He also had a stint in the Bundesliga, which saw him transfer to Union Berlin last summer. There, Bonucci made it to the Champions League again. Some considered his emotional playing style perfect for Union Berlin.

Unfortunately, his time at Union didn't turn out as planned. Bonucci only managed to play in seven matches for the Berlin club. The misunderstanding between the player and the club was eventually resolved.

Since then, he has been playing in the Turkish Super Lig for Fenerbahce. And on Sunday, he can make his mark in his last game for this club.
