Saint Pauli's defensive leader - Smith set to make his debut in Sweden!
Eric Smith's (27) season ends on a high note.
Weeks ago, he was set to be named to the Swedish national team, but was forced to back out due to an injury. Now, he's finally receiving the call he previously missed. National coach Jon Dahl Tomasson (47) has invited him to play for the senior squad in international test matches against Denmark (5.6.) and Serbia (8.6.), both European Championship participants. This means less downtime before the season ends for Smith, but he's undoubtedly thrilled with this opportunity.
Smith to Debut for Sweden!
In a twist of fate, Smith will be sharing the field with a former St. Pauli teammate: Viktor Gyökeres (25), a sought-after striker playing for Sporting Lisbon, was loaned to the Kiez club in 2019/20.
The international matches will serve as a terrific way for Smith to cap off the season before he and his wife Fannie, who announced in April that she's expecting a child, enjoy a much-needed respite.
