Power - Six new hydrogen-powered buses are being introduced to Weimar's city transportation fleet.
Weimar will soon have six new hydrogen buses for its public transportation system. This adds to the current pilot project that has been ongoing since November 2023 with three hydrogen buses. The city made this announcement on Tuesday, stating that these vehicles and the necessary infrastructure will be operational by the end of 2025. The three fuel cell buses already in use have shown to be highly reliable, according to the city.
"Gaining valuable insight into hydrogen buses in Weimar can be beneficial in other areas as well," commented Thuringia's Energy Minister, Bernhard Stengele (Greens). The city plans to invest seven million euros to replace six diesel buses, expand a hydrogen workshop, and convert the depot. Most of this funding will come from state and EU resources.
