Updates on Leipzig's loaned players. - Silva sets comeback, Angelino on brink of exit
André Silva (26), currently playing on loan for San Sebastian, is set to return to his parent club RB Leipzig this summer. Reports from Spanish media indicate that the first-division club will not be exercising the option to purchase him for €15 million.
This news comes as no surprise, given that Silva's performance at San Sebastian has been lackluster, with only three goals in 24 competitive matches. Before the season, rumors suggested that the club was interested in buying Silva, but for a lower price. Now, Leipzig will need to find a new home for the striker, who has a contract until 2026 but seems to have no future with the club. However, his high salary of around €7 million could make this a challenge.
Silva's fall from grace is disappointing as he was a force to be reckoned with while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt, scoring an impressive 28 goals in the 2020/21 season before making the move to Leipzig for €23 million. Unfortunately, he was never able to match that level of performance at his new team.
Meanwhile, Angelino (27) seems to have a brighter future ahead. Italian media reports that AS Roma is set to buy him for €5 million, as agreed via an option. Coach Daniele De Rossi, known for his temperament, is said to be a big fan of the left-back.
However, the Italians have not yet made contact with Leipzig. This is presumably due to the uncertainty surrounding Sporting Director Tiago Pinto, who is leaving the club at the end of the season and his successor is yet to be appointed. When the new leadership is in place, they will likely facilitate the Angelino purchase.
It seems the end is near for Angelino's time at Leipzig. His loan spell at Galatasaray in the winter was marred by off-field controversies, but he managed to rebound in Italy. He played 14 matches in Serie A and four in the Europa League in the second half of the season.
