Arnsberg-Bruchhausen: A Mention of a Location - Significant operation close to Perstorp: Fire department extracts roofer
Every year, the Perstorp company's annual exercise is held, led by Dirk Sölken, the head of the exercise and company fire brigade. A lifelike situation required two rooftop workers to be saved from the fourth floor of a production building. A fire caused by roofing work had led to smoke generation.
At the same moment, the NBC group of the Arnsberg fire department faced another challenge: A person had been trapped and was pinned underneath a damaged IBC container filled with hydrochloric acid during an accident during unloading. During the exercise, specialists from Perstorp were present to provide the emergency services with vital information and alert them to potential hazards.
The rooftop area fires were put out by firefighters from the Perstorp fire department, basic firefighting unit 6, and the Arnsberg main fire station. Water was transported to the attack site from an upper trench, and the rooftop workers were successfully rescued with heavy breathing protection.
Concurrently, the NBC platoon units tackled the task of safely releasing a trapped person under the damaged IBC container. Because of the simulated hydrochloric acid leak, precautionary steps had to be taken extensively, and a decontamination station was set up. Using professional equipment and personnel, the IBC container was hoisted and the trapped person was successfully freed.
Perstorp's annual exercise is a vital part of the fire department's preparations for emergencies. The significance of these activities cannot be overstated for an efficient reaction during an emergency. A special thank you goes to the Perstorp company and Dirk Sölken, the head of the company fire department, for organizing and running this essential drill.
