Shooting near Las Vegas Strip leaves two dead, two injured
Two people are dead and another is fighting for his life after a shooting Wednesday night near the Strutt Hotel, Casino and SkyPod in Las Vegas.
The fourth victim reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on West Chicago Boulevard just north of the Las Vegas Strip.
According to Las Vegas television station KSNV, one of the seriously injured victims died of his injuries at the scene and died on the sidewalk.
Three other injured people were taken to Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment. One of the patients died shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Critical Situation
Another patient was in critical condition Wednesday night and may be in intensive care. His condition was unknown Thursday morning.
The fourth man is expected to survive and may be discharged from hospital soon.
The shooting occurred after four men got into an argument in the middle of West Chicago Boulevard, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
Weapon drawn
As the argument escalated, at least two people pulled out weapons and shot each other. Numerous witnesses called the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) after hearing repeated gunshots.
No one was involved in the deadly confrontation and no one was injured.
Police are not sure what led to the altercation and there is no evidence the men were in Strat before the altercation.
LVMPD homicide detectives searched the crime scene Wednesday night for evidence. Police may be trying to determine the number of shots fired and the weapon used.
Police spoke to the victim, who suffered minor injuries, and witnesses to find out what happened. No charges had been filed as of Wednesday evening. However, survivors may face charges related to the fatal incident.
An autopsy will likely be performed on both victims by the Clark County Coroner's Office. This will allow officials to confirm her identity and reveal the cause and manner of her death.
As of Wednesday evening, police had not identified the four men. They also did not disclose whether they were taken to Valley Hospital by private individuals or by ambulance. The distance from the crime scene to the hospital was estimated to be three kilometers.
More than a year ago, shots were fired after an argument broke out between several people also near the Strat, leaving one person dead. The incident happened on West Baltimore Avenue. As of press time, police had not linked the shooting to this week's shooting on West Chicago Avenue.
