M. Beisenherz: Apologies, I'm here in a personal capacity. - Shock and embarrassment over Nazi slogans on Sylt island

Youths wearing Moncler coats and Clubmaster sunglasses on Sylt are seen as the vanguard of wealthy indifference in Germany? In amazement, you drop your white Moët glass.

A group of jubilant business students presumably thought it would be a smart move to rewrite Gigi D'Agostino's hit "L'amour toujours" to a rhythmic "Foreigners out!" while partying in the open area of the Pony Club on Sylt. The Hitler beard and salute are hinted at in the backdrop, creating a surreal scene reminiscent of someone from Hoyerswerda in full jogging pants transformed into a high-ranking official in an alternative universe and unleashed with the old mindset.

To capture this moral triumph, it was also considered necessary to film and upload this masterpiece using an iPhone.

What could have triggered the "wealthy youths" on Sylt to act this way?

The incident took place at the Pony, a popular club on Sylt's Whisky Mile in Kampen. The Düsseldorf district of Sylt, known for Osnabrück real estate agents frolicking with their three huskies on the beach in 28 degrees and a light breeze. It's not that it's unusual for children from affluent families to express their disdain for the middle class. However, flirting with being a master race has never been done as blatantly as here. Right-wing radical, but there's a hint of a cultish vibe.

What could have led them to this? Perhaps the countless matt black G-Class Mercedes cruising around the pubs have made some feel that the German tanks are rolling again. Or maybe this meme-worthy contempt for humanity is part of an elitist counterculture, attempting to counter the blue-haired post-colonial left with such actions. But it has been done all wrong. Perhaps the cashmere sweater was tied a bit too tightly around the neck. You're taken aback and embarrassed.

A few parents might wonder if raising kids is more than sewing little Julius' polo collar, sliding his credit card into his white jeans, and sending him off to the island with a pat on the bottom. Of course, you could also assume that they're continuing what's said at the breakfast table at home in the morning. After all, the AfD 's ratings have always been high in marginalized, financially struggling areas and the notorious Eastern region, but also in the middle-class areas of Baden-Württemberg.

But it's Sylt!

Driven by the righteous anger of the educated middle class, you'd like to send these historical-forgetting jerks off to university. Until you remember what's happening at German universities. You'd be happy if they spent a few days working at the checkout in a Bottrop supermarket. Penny instead of designer clothes.

Since the internet, filled with its intellectual prestige, can turn any incident into an additional disaster through a mix of a hunger for attention and self-righteousness, the Pony, the venue, is now also being scrutinized intensely. The fact that the operators have convincingly distanced themselves - who cares! Sociological arguments are now being made that it's almost impossible for those responsible to have missed the anti-social roar because of the angle of the sound between the indoor and outdoor catering areas. But of course, it's Sylt. The island where Christian Lindner got married and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge owns a house. A bit like Mordor with a thatched roof. No one can expect leniency for these individuals. It's astonishing how well they fit into the stereotype. It looks like they've been cast for a public television crime scene where the entrepreneurs are always the villains.

Sharing real names - are you willing to participate?

The video is now being thoroughly reviewed, those involved may be held accountable, and of course, the presumption of innocence applies: in dubio Prosecco. Politicians express their horror, Nancy Faeser hopes to at least bring this terrorist cell under control, and the first "Nazis out" posters are displayed outside the Pony. A "Fuck AfD" hoodie will probably do little to resolve the fundamental problems we face as a country regarding right-wing extremist ideologies and high approval ratings for their political representatives.

But be warned, the young woman in the video and the three tenors are now distant from anyone who has any professional or personal ties with them. The emotional and public damage they've experienced is significant.

Even though you might want to use the power of social media to make the rich kids work for their crimes, what they did is still wrong, no matter the circumstances. For example, sharing their names and pictures online thousands of times (like BILD newspaper does) might feel like a righteous act when it's for a good cause, but it's still an invasion of their privacy. So before joining in on popular impulses, it's wise to stop and think if it's truly something you want to be a part of.
