The German Meteorological Service (DWD) has forecasted thunderstorms and significant downpours in the southwest over the approaching days. As per a representative, specific heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain are anticipated to emerge on Wednesday. Meteorologists then presume prolonged, heavy rainfall by weekends. "On Friday and Saturday, it is most likely we'll be subjected to a constant rain scenario", mentioned the representative.
As per the DWD, heavy thunderstorms with severe rainfall might occur from Wednesday afternoon, mostly in the northern part of Baden-Württemberg. Up to 25 liters of precipitation per square meter per hour might fall, locally up to 50 liters per square meter an hour.
Besides, meteorologists are predicting some strong gusts of wind reaching 80 kilometers per hour and hailstones sized two centimeters. Localized flooding is predicted as a result of the vigorous rainfall.
The thunderstorms are forecasted to go northwards on Thursday night, but showers can still be expected. Additional showers and isolated storms with strong to stormy gusts are also expected on Thursday.
►In the time span of midday Friday until midday Saturday, the southwest should prepare itself for continuous rain, some of it heavy, with 50 to 60 liters of precipitation per square meter within a day.
Although the heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday is still assumed to be localized, the DWD spokesperson implied that a broader region would be subjected to the rain by weekend. As per current forecasts, the southeast, particularly the Lake Constance area, Upper Swabia, and the eastern Swabian Alb, could be impacted.
"The models concur on something approaching - the inquiry is where the main concentration is", said the representative. More specific projections could only be offered on Thursday.
