Crash involving a lightweight aircraft - Seventy-four-year-old pilot requires tree-top extraction.
On a Monday afternoon, a 64-year-old pilot from Lower Saxony was making his way to the Dessau-Roßlau airfield in Saxony-Anhalt in an Ikarus C42 microlight plane, having flown from Magdeburg. Mysteriously, the front windshield of the cockpit got damaged, causing the pilot to lose control. He swiftly implemented an emergency procedure.
As informed by a police spokesperson on Tuesday, the microlight's parachute was released, enabling the pilot to descend gradually towards the ground. However, he became wedged at a height of five meters in the tree canopy of a forest within Mosigkau district.
The distress call was received at approximately 3:58 p.m., and shortly after, the fire department arrived to carry out the rescue. Luckily, the pilot emerged unscathed. By 10 p.m., the easily disposable aircraft was extracted from the trees, leaving behind 60,000 euros worth of material damage.
