Custom-made kitchens, automated vacuum cleaners, and electric saws available. - Senior female snatches 200,000 euros from children's organization.
Recently, Ulrike-Maria S., aged 65, faced the Braunschweig District Court in Lower Saxony. The reason for this hearing was her unlawful act of pilfering funds from the Till Eulenspiegel Parents' Initiative e.V. and the Umbrella Association of Parents' Initiatives e.V. where she held a board position. The amount stolen exceeded €200,000.
As a result of this misdeed, Judge Jürgen Langkopf penalized her with two years of probationary imprisonment.
Embezzlement Spanning Over 5 Years
Ulrike-Maria S., during her trial, confessed to her actions. She had, on numerous occasions, withdrawn funds from the association, utilizing them for various personal expenses like her children's needs and supporting a friend's family.
A breakdown of these expenses: a television for €2,200, a digital camera, a vacuum cleaner robot, a chainsaw, car repairs, and even the installation of two kitchens (€10,600 and €6,600, respectively). The expenses for her children's apartments also include bathroom renovations. But only €11,000 of the massive sum were spent on her personally.
Son's Workshop Funded by the Association
One of her sons had a workshop under the Till Eulenspiegel e.V. association. He conducted an automotive workshop in this space. The association's funds were used to purchase equipment like a workbench with tools (€1,400) and steel shelves with tools.
A friend's couple also gained from this fraud. Ulrike-Maria S. had extended loans totaling nearly €104,000 to them between October 2014 and February 2017. The loan payments emerged from the Till Eulenspiegel e.V. account, categorized as "rent deposit" and "rent advance payment."
Moreover, private bills from this couple were paid off using the association's funds.
Association Warns Her About Investigation
However, this long-drawn-out scheme came to an end. In 2018, the Parents' Initiative was audited by the tax authorities, who confiscated documents. It surfaced that the questionable invoices had created internal turmoil, leading to the exposure of accounting irregularities as reported by "Braunschweig Zeitung."
Her offense grabbed the attention of the public prosecutor's office and tax authorities, and the Parents' Initiative had cautioned her about the impending investigations.
Instead, she retaliated by filing a lawsuit. Now, she's facing a probationary sentence for embezzlement.
