Her acting as an annoyed girl displeased him. - Senior Citizen (70 Years Old) Fires Gun at Neighbor's Kid (12 Years Old)

Last summer in the small town of Bornhöved (population 3464, Schleswig-Holstein), something shocking occurred. Alice Carina Sch. (38), a mother, shared her experience of her daughter Miley (year and age not mentioned) coming back from the playground next door with a horrific scream, "Mom, my arm!"; when Alice saw her daughter bleeding, she noticed the bullet wound in her upper arm.

Gunshot wound in the arm

A metal object from an air rifle was embedded in Miley's right arm, buried deep within.

Her neighbor, Karl-Heinz M. (70), had to stand trial for this in Bad Segeberg on Tuesday. He was charged with inflicting life-threatening harm. He claimed:

"I don't shoot at children playing! I have a sparrow problem."

It turned out he had attempted to scare off birds with firecrackers, and then used his air rifle. The authorities confiscated a GDR air rifle Suhl 303 Super plus ammunition from him.

Judge: "Did you drink that day?"Karl-Heinz: "No. I don't drink alcohol."

Miley was rushed to the hospital, where the bullet was finally removed after a delay of eight hours. The anesthetic didn't take immediately, and she endured unbearable pain.

Miley has a rare disease

Miley faced more challenges than most; she had neurofibromatosis, a disease causing abnormal growths of nerve tissue. Her condition had led to a brain tumor diagnosis, rendering her 100% severely disabled.

During the trial, the defense lawyer requested time for consideration, and spoke with Karl-Heinz M. for a while.

Returning to the courtroom, he announced casually, "My client admits to firing two shots with his air rifle towards the playground, spotting the children. This was foolish of him, and he can't explain why he did so."

The 70-year-old man apologized to Miley, "I'm sorry for my foolishness." He also agreed to pay her €7,500 in compensation.

It seems this admission of guilt was crucial in avoiding a prison term. The verdict: a 16-month suspended prison sentence.

The presiding judge puzzled over the reasoning behind Karl-Heinz M.'s behavior, "It's unclear to me why someone living next to a playground would act like this at lunchtime. I hope the neighborhood can eventually find peace."
