Scottie Scheffler dominates Masters, Tigers encourage heavy betting
World No. 1 Scotty Scheffler arrives at Augusta National Golf Club as the betting favorite for the Masters for the second year in a row.
On Wednesday, a day before the start of the 2024 Masters, two leading sports betting providers announced that Scheffler is dominating the betting world. BetMGM has announced that the 2022 Green Jacket winner will be responsible for more than 19% of the bets on the first major of the year and 14.5% of the tickets.
BetMGM had Schaeffler opening at 9/1, before dropping to 4/1. The eight-time PGA Tour winner is the biggest liability this weekend.
Fanatics reports that the 27-year-old behaved similarly. Scheffler is responsible for 9.5 percent of the tickets booked and is responsible for nearly 15 percent of the financing. According to Fanatics, more than nine bettors have bet more than $1,000 on Scheffler, including one bettor from Colorado who bet $5,000.
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who turned $600,000 into $2.76 million by betting on the UConn Huskies to win the men's NCAA March Madness tournament, announced today that he made money on Scheffler $300,000 in Augusta dollars. Portnoy placed a massive +450 bet on DraftKings, the online sportsbook his company now partners with. The ticket sales totaled $1.65 million.

After finding his putting stroke in early March, Scheffler won back-to-back wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship, the latter of which represents the PGA Tour's top annual purse. Scheffler tied for second at the Texas Children's Houston Open last week.
"Scotty's been off the course," said Samir Tageldin, golf trader for Fanatics Sportsbook. "He's been out here since replacing his putter at the Arnold Palmer Invitational last month. Two wins and second place in three events. Scotty has been expected to be strong given his recent form and he has shown in recent seasons that he loves this time of year."
In his four trips to Magnolia Lane, Scheffler has finished no worse than a tie for 19th. After winning in 2022, he finished tied for 10th last year.
Perhaps the only thing stopping Scheffler from donning a second green jacket Sunday night at Butler Cabin is his family. Scheffler's wife is pregnant and the world's top golfer has announced that he will withdraw from competition if she gives birth.
McIlroy and Woods
Another favorite before the Masters is world No. 2 Rory McIlroy. Many golf fans once again hope that the 34-year-old can win his first green jacket and complete the major of his modern golf career.
A victory on Sunday would make McIlroy the seventh golfer in history to win the Masters. Open Championship, Open Championship and PGA Championship. McIlroy is responsible for approximately 5% of Fanatics Masters' bankroll and 7% of BetMGM's bankroll.
Tiger Woods is past his prime, but the five-time Masters champion continues to attract bets every time he wins. That's the case again this week.
According to Fanatics, Tiger received 5% of the vote, ranking fourth out of 89 players. Woods has not won an official PGA Tour event since the Zozo Championship in Japan in October 2019. Woods' odds are +15,000, which means a $100 bet on Tiger winning his sixth green jacket would net him $15,000.
"All the actions Tiger took to earn such a high price underscore his legendary status," Tagelding said. "The moment he won the 2019 Masters will stay with you and people will encourage him to do it again." Possible things.”
