Has the coach arrived yet? - Schultz no longer stays in Cologne.
Schultz: "As we haven't achieved our primary objective - maintaining the team's class - I think it's appropriate and logical for someone else to begin anew."
Both assistant coaches, André Pawlak (53) and Kevin McKenna (44), are also departing the club.
Sport director Christian Keller (45) shares: "Over the past week, we've been collaborating with Timo to dissect the past season's second half and examine every aspect. Ultimately, we agreed that a fresh start was necessary for the upcoming second league season in terms of our coaching team. I'd like to express my gratitude to Timo for his devoted efforts as a coach and as a person from his initial day to his last day at the FC."
"Schulle" himself wanted to stay at the club ("I don't need to tell anyone how wonderful this club is"), but he didn't have a valid second league contract. The notion of a new beginning is now met with skepticism at the Goat Farm. Even after recent discussions, nothing has altered. It's been claimed that Keller initially intended to keep Schultz onboard. However, the doubtful board, led by President Werner Wolf (67), was said to have been reluctant to maintain Schultz.
It's also felt that Schultz's recent performance fell short of expectations. He won only three games as head coach and failed to secure salvation. Moreover, the team's poor showings against Darmstadt (0:2) and Heidenheim (1:4) on the final matchday were especially disappointing.
The objective is to select a new coaching team by June 21st, the beginning of preparation.
The frontrunner among the candidates for Schultz's successor is Christian Eichner (45) from Karlsruhe.
