Final match of HSV's season facing Nuremberg. - Schonlau struggles, Hermann approves.
HSV's final game of the season on Sunday against 1. FC Nürnberg is all about pride for both teams. Hamburger SV no longer have the chance of stealing the third relegation spot. Nuremberg can't be sent down.
Even though it's not a position anyone would brag about, Baumgart won't give up the match against the Franconians to at least nail down fourth place: "We really want to put out the best team possible."
Sebastian Schonlau (29/calf) was still out on Thursday, so it's unlikely that the captain will be ready to play. Right-back Ignace Van der Brempt (22/muscular problems) also stayed in the dressing room.
Midfielder Immanuel Pherai (22/muscular problems) and central defender Dennis Hadzikadunic (25/cold) worked out with the rehab coach Sebastian Capel (38). It's unsure whether these two guys will play.
However, keeper Matheo Raab (25) and Masaya Okugawa (28), who had been sick recently, were back in practice with the team.
Although it's undecided whether sporting director Jonas Boldt (42/contract until 2025) will remain in his current position or be let go, Hamburg is looking into their future sports plans. The club has prolonged the contract of goalkeeper Hannes Hermann (19) by an additional year, so his deal now runs until summer 2027. On top of that, the young goalie signed his first professional contract.
"Hannes is a promising goalkeeper who's demonstrated his skills at various youth levels for many years and also played for the German junior national team," said HSV's Claus Costa (39).
Hermann has this to say: "I've been with HSV since I was 11, and over the years, it's become like a second home to me. I truly enjoy being here."
This season, Hermann will be the consistent goalkeeper for the U21s, and he'll also train with the seniors. He recently won a game for HSV's U19s against FC St. Pauli in the A-Junior Bundesliga, 3-2.
