Today marks the announcement - Schalke 04 appoints a new squad tactician.
Ben Manga (50) Joins Second-Division Club as Squad Planner
Former Technical Director at Watford FC, Ben Manga, has recently ended his contract with the English second division team. Prior to that, he served as the Director of Professional Football at Frankfurt and worked as a scout at Eintracht, Stuttgart, and Hoffenheim.
His objective: With the Royal Blues currently sitting 11th in the table and having experienced a poor season, Manga and sporting director Marc Wilmots (55) aim to rebuild the squad and position the team in the top third of the table next season, ultimately striving for promotion.
Schalke had already sealed their relegation three matchdays before the season's end with a 4:0 victory over Osnabrück.
The fact that Manga was likely to join Schalke had been apparent for some time, given that he had also been working as a shadow squad planner behind the scenes at the Revierklub.
The squad planner's position at Schalke has been notoriously unstable, with eleven different people replacing Rudi Assauer (†74) since 2006.
Manga has anticipated the challenges ahead. He understands that the role at Schalke can be a great chance for him. Should he successfully revive the "sleeping giant" of Königsblau, his career prospects would undoubtedly soar. The entire nation would take notice of his accomplishments.
Manga officially begins his new role on this day...
