Sands China's Londoner Hotel in Macau Makes It to China's Top 10

Sands China's The Londoner Macau, located on the Cotai Strip, has been included in the 2023 Conde Nast Traveler Gold List, making it the only hotel in Macau's gambling hub to receive the "China Top 10 Hotels" distinction from the luxury travel publication.

Conde Nast Traveler is a popular luxury travel and lifestyle magazine published by its namesake media firm. Every year, the magazine ranks the best cruises, hotels, resorts, and other travel destinations. Despite Macau's abundance of extravagant hotels, The Londoner is setting itself apart with its mention on the Gold List.

As Grant Chum, COO of Sands China, said in a statement, "At The Londoner Macao, we take pride in design excellence, bespoke hospitality, and unmatched facilities. These combined elements enable us to create refined experiences that truly embody The Londoner way of life." He continued, "Our guests can feel at home while enjoying the best that The Londoner Macao has to offer and exploring Macao. Being awarded the prestigious title on the Gold List is a testament to the dedication, passion, and hard work of our team members."

Sands China, which operates five integrated resorts in Macau, is a subsidiary of Las Vegas Sands.

The Londoner's Past

Formerly known as Sands Cotai Central, the £1.5 billion Londoner is a modern, British-inspired renovation of its previous incarnation. Before its 2021 opening, the property faced delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Londoner is part of Sands' plan to add approximately 2 million square feet of high-end suite accommodations to the Cotai Strip. Its effort to bring more non-gaming attractions to Macau aligns with the company's focus on diversifying its offerings. The all-suite hotel boasts 600 guest suites, including some inspired by David Beckham, an English soccer legend and Sands Resorts Macao's global ambassador.

"The first celebrity-designed suites in Macao, [these] suites reflect the discerning style and sophistication of David Beckham," the statement reads. With the 'Be My Guest' program, VIP guests can experience Beckham's lifestyle firsthand by immersing themselves in his sporting career, personal style, passion for football, photography, tailoring, and male grooming.

Analysts predict Londoner's contributions will bolster Las Vegas Sands' lead in Macau's mass market, which the operator almost singlehandedly dominates at around 30%.

The Londoner's Unique Achievement

Placing as one of the 10 best hotels in China, a country teeming with high-end lodgings, is impressive. Adding to its noteworthy achievement is the fact that the property has only been open for a short time, having debuted in early 2021.

This accomplishment is even more remarkable considering that the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List rarely features gaming venues or hotels found in gambling-centric cities.

The only Las Vegas property ever to grace the Gold List was the NoMad, housed within Park MGM on the Strip.
