Roundup of Crimes in Las Vegas: Paris Las Vegas Suffers $50K in Fire Damage

Firefighters from the Clark County Fire Department swiftly put out a blaze that broke out on a bathroom wall at the Paris Las Vegas on Monday morning. This incident, as per social media posts, caused a portion of the Las Vegas Strip property to become smokey.

The fire department received notice of the fire incident at around 9:48 a.m. on Monday.

Once they arrived at the location, firefighters detected a mild smoke emanating from a utility hatch situated in the bathroom wall.

When they made a hole in the wall, they observed "a pile of clothes and debris" according to a statement by Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Warren Whitney in a report by Las Vegas TV station KSNV.

Some people present in the building complained of experiencing smoke inhalation, but EMTs didn't have to administer treatment at the site, and no one was transported to a hospital.

Numerous social media posters reported witnessing smoke inside the casino resort.

As of Tuesday morning, the cause of the small blaze had not yet been determined by the fire department. An initial estimate suggested damages of $50K.

In other news, Henry Ruggs III, previously a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, will be sentenced on Wednesday for a lethal car accident.

Ruggs might receive a sentence of up to 10 years in prison for this 2021 collision.

In May, Ruggs pleaded guilty to DUI resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter. He was reportedly driving at speeds exceeding 156 mph before colliding with another vehicle on Rainbow Boulevard near Spring Valley Parkway, according to authorities.

After the accident, Ruggs' blood alcohol level was measured at 0.16. This is twice Nevada's legal limit.

The driver of the other vehicle, Tina Tintor, aged 23, and her pet unfortunatley perished in the accident.

In addition, it was disclosed this week that Ruggs underwent in-patient treatment for roughly four weeks for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following the crash, as reported by Las Vegas TV station KLAS.

The treatment facility was based in Newport Beach, Florida. Ruggs actively engaged in the treatment process, and his treatment team noted his progress.

"Mr. Ruggs was fully engaged in the treatment process and made steady progress with his treatment team," said a treatment center director in a court submission.

Ruggs, through his attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, admitted to having made errors.

"Mr. Ruggs is a man of good character who made a terrible mistake," read their 69-page submission to the court. "In light of Mr. Ruggs' post-offense conduct, it is clear that he has made positive changes in his life, has accepted responsibility, and has sincere remorse."

Ruggs faces a minimum sentence of three years and would not be eligible for probation or an appeal, reported KLAS.

Tintor's mother, brother, and uncle are slated to address the court prior to Ruggs being sentenced.

Ruggs has been charged with more serious counts of DUI resulting in death, DUI resulting in significant bodily harm, two counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, and possession of a weapon while under the influence.

His girlfriend, Kiara Kilgo-Washington, was with him at the time and suffered injuries in the crash.

The couple had been having dinner and consuming alcohol at Las Vegas' Topgolf before the collision. [text posted above]
