German Football League - Rolfes expresses positivity over Tah's commitment to Bayer.

Head coach Simon Rolfes is feeling optimistic about retaining the sought-after defensive leader Jonathan Tah at Bayer Leverkusen. "At this point in his life, it's normal to consider other options," remarked Rolfes as he headed out for the first half of the Europa League semifinal against AS Roma (Thursday at 9 pm on RTL): "However, I'm pretty positive about him staying. He's witnessed the recent developments at the club and sees what else is in store. Hence, I'm quite tranquil."

A long-standing member of Bayer Leverkusen since 2015, the 28-year-old Tah played a crucial role in their recent triumph, being part of the first-ever league title and the potential treble. Tah has also become a fixture in his national team. FC Bayern Munich purportedly aims to sign Tah, and the player himself has previously expressed an interest in playing in England one day. His deal runs through 2025, and team president Fernando Carro has stated that he will not let it lapse. Tah must either decide to put pen to paper on a contract extension or be transferred.

Rolfes wasn't keen on reaffirming the need to sell a player in the coming summer as Carro had originally proclaimed. "That was more of a general statement," he noted: "Our intention is to assemble a championship-caliber team next season. If you're investing, you might have to part ways with certain players. That was the case five years ago and it's likely to remain so in three years. But it's apparent that we won't have to sell off more than a few players this summer."
