The German club Rhein-Neckar Löwen advanced to the Final Four of the European League thanks to their exceptional goalkeeper, David Späth. Despite losing the second leg of the quarter finals at Sporting Lisbon with a score of 28:29 (12:15) on Tuesday night, their 32:29 win in the first leg ensured their spot in the upcoming round.

At the Arena Joao Rocha, Tobias Reichmann was the leading scorer for coach Sebastian Hinze's team with a total of seven goals. The Löwen started strong and held an 8:6 lead (15') due to Späth's impressive saves. Nonetheless, they struggled to find solutions against Lisbon's tight defense, causing them to trail at halftime by a score of 12:15.

After the break, the team's attack problems persisted. However, Späth's undeniable talent and determination allowed them to remain in the game, even when they trailed by four goals. In the game's closing moments, Späth made an astounding 15th save to deny Lisbon a seven-meter penalty, while Reichmann scored the decisive goal.
