Retirement for Julian Serrano Means Closing Picasso, Jose Andrés Launches Fifth Strip Restaurant

Julian Serrano, a renowned chef in Las Vegas, is shutting down his popular restaurant, Picasso, after an impressive 25-year run at the Bellagio. The decision comes as part of Serrano's plans towards retirement, according to a recent press release from MGM Resorts. Serrano, known for his exceptional culinary skills and winning the James Beard Award thrice, will also step back from supervising the kitchen at Bellagio's Lago.

The celebrated chef expressed his gratitude to MGM Resorts for the collaboration that resulted in something special at Picasso and mentioned that he'll continue leading Julian Serrano Tapas at Aria. Since its inception in 1998, Picasso has gained widespread acclaim in the culinary world. It became the first Las Vegas restaurant to receive a James Beard nomination for the best new restaurant; one of just two Nevada restaurants to receive the highly coveted Forbes Five-Star Award; and one of just two Las Vegas restaurants to secure two Michelin stars.

Meanwhile, another esteemed Spanish chef, José Andrés, has announced the name of his fifth Strip restaurant. Bazaar Mar is slated to open at The Shops at Crystals in Aria Campus this summer and will specialize in seafood and tapas inspired by Spanish flavors. Andrés' culinary journey in Las Vegas began in 2010 with the opening of Jaleo, China Poblano, and é by José Andrés at The Cosmopolitan. He followed that up with Bazaar Meat at the Sahara in 2014. Another Andrés restaurant, Zaytinya, will also open at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace, marking its third outpost.

Flamingo Road.

Fred Howard, the talented chef behind Southern Style Eatery, plans to launch an outpost of his Louisiana soul food restaurant in Las Vegas. It will debut in June at 1500 S. Las Vegas Blvd. with a range of distinctively delicious dishes like blackened fish, beef oxtails, and gumbo.

California Noodle House has made a triumphant return to the California casino downtown, reopening after being closed for four years due to the pandemic shutdown.

The only remaining establishment on the site of the planned and approved Tilman Fertitta casino resort project at Harmon Avenue and the Strip, Tex Mex, has shut down and will be demolished soon.

China Mama is soon set to launch its third location, Spring by China Mama, at 4480 Paradise Road, Suite 700A. The existing China Mama property at 3420 S. Jones Blvd. was temporarily closed due to a fire in March last year.
