Resorts World Las Vegas celebrates one million Casino Rewards members

Resorts World Las Vegas opened on June 24, 2021 at a cost of US$4.3 billion. More than two years and four months later, the casino at the north end of the Las Vegas Strip announced this week it had signed up its 1 millionth rewards member.

Malaysia-based Genting owns the Resorts World brand. The company owns Resorts World-branded casinos in Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and the Bahamas. Genting also operates four RW casinos in the United States, three in New York and a fourth in Nevada.

The Las Vegas facility is Genting's largest investment in the United States to date. Genting's big gamble is starting to pay off after opening in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Genting said in its financial report for the first half of 2023 that the occupancy rate of Resorts World Las Vegas' 3,506 rooms exceeded 90%. The company also reported continued growth in gaming and resort revenue.

Resorts World Las Vegas has had a bumpy opening, including several changes at its restaurants, a scandal involving one of its key executives, and the firing of president and chief operating officer Scott Siebe in September. Scott Sibella, the scandal finally came to a head. Resorts World Las Vegas appears to have regained its footing. This week, the casino celebrated a major milestone.

One Millionth Reward Member

Resorts World Las Vegas utilizes Genting Rewards, Genting’s loyalty program. Participants can earn points throughout the resort, with 3 points for every $1 spent on slot machines and 5 points for every $1 spent on food and beverages. Bonus points are also earned on retail purchases and spa services.

Resorts World Las Vegas announced the signing of its 1 millionth Genting Rewards member on Monday, November 6. The registrant is Billy Chung of El Dorado Hills, California.

As the millionth lucky participant, Chung received the casino’s royal treatment package. The package includes a customized Genting Rewards Commemorative Card, free three-night stay in a luxury suite in the future, round-trip air tickets for two people, and free dinner.

Chung will also receive four tickets to a Resorts World show of his choice, a complimentary cabana at Athena or a VIP table at Ayu Day Club or Zouk Nightclub, and a complimentary spa package for four.

Finally, Chung will receive one million Cloud Rewards points, which will automatically increase his loyalty to the program's highest level, Empire. Empire members enjoy free valet parking, a 40% points bonus on slot machines and up to $500 in annual airfare reimbursement.

The meaning of loyalty

Casinos take their rewards programs very seriously, as the database allows resorts to market directly to guests with promotions and incentives. Gambling researchers say reward programs are good for consumers, but more evidence is needed to determine their impact on problem gamblers.

Caesars Entertainment launched Total Rewards in 1997, the first major casino rewards program. The program was renamed Caesar Rewards in 2019. An internal document shows how the schemes could be used to benefit casinos.

“Because Total Rewards tracks guest preferences, special occasions and needs, loyalty milestones and gaming levels, hotel operators have continuous, real-time access to data, allowing them to individually improve each guest’s experience,” the document explains.
