Report: WWE and UFC team up for Vegas event
One of the UFC's martial arts combinations could be... pro wrestling.
The two sports entertainment giants have been considering transformation options since WWE and UFC completed their merger to form TKO Group Holdings last September. This reportedly includes compressing their activities into a weekend in one destination.
If new reports are to be believed, the first step in that direction will take place on June 9 in Las Vegas. WWE's "NXT Battleground" event will reportedly then move to the UFC Apex Events and Production Center near the South Point Hotel & Casino.
The event is still officially scheduled for May 26 in Savannah, Georgia. However, the change was reported by reliable wrestling social media news sources @PWInsider and @WrestleVotes, with the latter specifying UFC Apex.
While WWE has yet to confirm the change, there is already speculation as to the reason behind it.
small world
While WWE has a habit of selling out large venues for its main events, its development brands have decidedly smaller audiences.
Savannah's Enmarket Arena seats 10,000 people. But according to newsletter The Wrestling Observer, only 2,000 tickets were sold for this year's "NXT Battleground."
A questionable additional or alternative reason could be competing for tickets to the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) event on May 26.
AEW will then host the Double or Nothing event at the MGM Garden Arena in Las Vegas. "NXT Battleground" and "Double or Nothing" had already started a duel as early as May 28 last year.
WWE is also considering moving "NXT Deadline" to the UFC Apex, according to SEScoops.com.
It's unclear what will happen if the more than 1,000 wrestling fans who bought tickets to the May 26 event in Savannah still want tickets to the June 9 event in Las Vegas.
