Report Indicates Suicide of Suspected Mass Killer in North Las Vegas
A 47-year-old individual, Eric Adams, suspected of shooting and killing five victims, including a 13-year-old girl in North Las Vegas, Nevada, took his own life on Tuesday morning. Authorities were on the lookout for Adams following the mass shooting that took place on Monday night.
Upon spotting him with a firearm, police officers issued verbal commands for Adams to drop the weapon, but he disregarded these instructions and tragically took his own life.
Two female victims, aged around 40 and 50, died at the crime scene itself. Two women and a man in their 20s who lived in the neighboring apartment also lost their lives. Their identities have yet to be confirmed by local police, awaiting autopsies from the Clark County coroner’s office.
The 13-year-old victim remains in critical condition at University Medical Center, where she was rushed in an attempt to save her life. The extent of her injuries has not been disclosed by the police.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, as no other individuals appear to have been wounded. It's also uncertain whether any guns were confiscated by the police.
Adams was previously labeled as armed and "extremely dangerous" by the North Las Vegas police department, and authorities urged the public to avoid approaching him if spotted and to call 911 immediately. Upon Adams' death, the police announced that he no longer posed a threat to the community. Upon his arrest, he likely would have been charged with multiple counts of murder and could have faced many years in prison if found guilty.
The shootings occurred around 10 p.m. on Monday at an apartment complex on Casa Norte Drive, near Commerce Street and Lone Mountain Road. Two vans from the coroner’s office and multiple police vehicles could be seen at Craig Ranch Villas, located at 370 Casa Norte Drive in North Las Vegas, on Tuesday morning, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The suspected crime scene was blocked off with yellow police tape.
A resident of Craig Ranch Villas, Taylor Holmes, ages 47, told a reporter that she has lived there for three years and that this was the first incident of this nature that had occurred in the area. "You can’t really control anybody’s actions," she said. "For five people to be unalive, that’s crazy."
