Former Ösi billionaire required to appear before the parliament. - René Benko being led by law enforcement officers to face the U Committee
René Benko (46), who previously had his appointment canceled twice, found himself in a tricky situation when the Austrian government intervened, arranging an official presentation. Instead of getting a courtesy car or a limo, Benko was driven to the Austrian Committee of Inquiry in a civilian police car - an Audi. There were two police cars parked in front of the entrance, and officers accompanied him to the committee room.
The ex-real estate tycoon is expected to answer questions about the state aid his once-thriving Signa empire allegedly received during the pandemic, as well as the speculation surrounding his connection to prominent Austrian politicians like former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (37).
During his initial remarks, Benko stated that he wouldn't be answering questions about the content in question. The inquiry is still ongoing.
